Dr Francesca Marten is a strong, independent career GP who has been in an unfulfilling relationship with city playboy Ed Smithers for several years. Sally Childs, Francesca’s best friend and surrogate sister, has been there with Francesca through all the ups and downs of her life including the deaths of both their mothers. 

 

Whilst on the face of it Francesca loves her life, she can’t help envying Sally’s relationship with loving husband Tim and two gorgeous daughters Libby and Bronwyn and is always happy to help out with a spot of last minute babysitting on the rare occasions when Sally’s devotion to her Art Students at Sunbury High takes priority to her family who under most circumstances come first despite Sally’s love of her job.

 

The Greatest Gift tells the story of how more tragedy plagues Francesca and her family but through the tears her relationship with Ed blossoms and finally Francesca is given the chance to have the family lifestyle she desperately longs for but daren’t admit to wanting. 

 

There are many challenges to face, many difficulties to overcome and much hurt and emotion along the way but love prevails and Francesca finds a strength that she didn’t realise she possessed as she strives to move forward against the odds to a happy outcome and the eventual realisation of a lifetime desire.
